This talk provides a brief overview of Internet milestones, including the 50th anniversary of the Internet in 2019, and an overview of Internet Identifiers and the Domain Name System. The talk then puts unique identifiers in context with the issue of DNS privacy, recent attacks, and the development of new protocols such as DNS over TLS and DNS over HTTPS, which enhance privacy protections but also change the landscape for various stakeholders.
