The academic year at Polish universities runs from October till June. The year is usually divided into two fifteen week terms (semesters): winter semester and summer semester. All international students are always officially welcomed at the University of Lodz during an orientation meeting at the beginning of each semester. Details of the meeting will be sent to each student via e-mail. Incoming students are also encouraged to join Polish Language Course in September preceding the academic year.

Changes to Learning Agreements are only to be made during the first 14 days of a semester.

o 6 Jan. Epiphany Day – public holiday
• 8 Feb. – 21 Feb. winter semester exams
• 22 Feb. – 28 Feb. holidays between semesters
THE SUMMER SEMESTER STARTS ON 1 MARCH AND ENDS ON 30 SEPTEMBER 2021
Classes are held from 1 March till 13 June 2021
• 1 Mar. – 7 Mar. make-up of winter semester exams
• 1 Mar. – 3 Jun. classes

o 2 Apr. – 6 Apr. Spring Holidays (12 Apr, 13 Apr – public holidays)
o 1 May Labour Day – public holiday
o 2 May National Flag of Poland Day
o 3 May Constitution Day – public holiday
o one Friday in May may be off due to Yearly Student Carnival
o 23 May Pentecost – public holiday
o 24 May – a day off from the Rector (due to the UL establishment anniversary)
o 3 Jun. Corpus Christi – public holiday

• 21 Jun. – 4 Jul. summer semester exams
* public holiday – most shops are closed, city public transport operates as on Sundays, other transport may not work
** The summer semester make-up exam session is in September and its precise dates are to be settled by the Dean of the Faculty. This make-up exam session is for full-time students only and doesn’t concern international mobility students.
