The Crown laureates – selected by the jury in the 7th edition of the plebiscite – were selected in an online vote. The awards were presented to them during a gala held at the POLIN Conference Centre in Warsaw.
Prof. Marcin Górski, along with Dr Paweł Marcisz from the University of Warsaw, was honoured in the "Law" category for his work on the case "Szypuła and Others v. Poland", thanks to which the European Court of Human Rights obliged Poland to recognise same-sex unions. He was also nominated in this category, together with Dorota Pudzianowska and Artur Pietryka, for the case of “Formela and Others v. Poland”.
The role of the academic community is to engage in public affairs and support the values that build our community. I consider conducting strategic pro bono proceedings to be a moral obligation for lawyers, especially academic lawyers. I am grateful that the significance of the cases in which I had the honour to participate alongside distinguished lawyers was recognised. I am pleased that a representative of the University of Lodz (#HumanUniversity) could be present in these activities so crucial for understanding the common good
– says Prof. Marcin Górski.
At the University of Lodz, which is a diverse, open and tolerant university, we want every member of our academic community to feel like an essential part of it, and for the academic environment to be free from all forms of violence and discrimination. We would like to offer our warmest congratulations to Professor Marcin Górski.
