ANNOUNCEMENT
In the summer semester, most first-year students will begin their foreign language courses as part of the mandatory language programme.
Please read carefully the following important information.
FOREIGN LANGUAGE COURSES (PROGRAMME LECTORATES)
• The courses are conducted by the Centre for Languages and Certification (CJiC) (formerly the Foreign Languages Teaching Centre), operating under Resolution No. 206 of the Senate of the University of Łódź of 18 June 2021.
• CJiC offers courses in the following languages: English, German, Russian, French, and Spanish.
• The total duration of the course is 120 hours (for full-time students) or 72 hours (for part-time students), in accordance with the study programme.
• The course concludes with a programme examination at B2 or B2+ level (for long-cycle Master’s studies).
DIAGNOSTIC TEST
Each student is required to complete an online diagnostic test before beginning the language course.
️ The test will be available from 3 November to 5 December 2025.
How to take the test:
1. Log in to the University of Łódź E-learning Platform (lodz.pl).
2. Find your language test on the list of available courses (e.g. English Language Test).
3. Enrol in the test – the access code is the same as the one used for the Health and Safety (BHP) course.
Important:
• You may take the test in only one language.
• The test can be taken only once.
Test structure:
• The test consists of 5 levels, each containing 20 questions.
• To proceed to the next level, you must score at least 14 points.
After completing the test, print your result and keep it for submission together with the appropriate form.
AFTER COMPLETING THE TEST
If your result is equal to or below B1 level:
• You must register for the regular language course (programme lectorate).
• Submit your language choice declaration using the MS Forms application by 31 December 2025.
If your result is equal to or above B2 level (at least 70% correct answers at the B2 level):
You have several options:
1. Continue learning the same language you were tested in:
o Submit your language choice declaration via MS Forms by 31 December 2025.
2. Take the programme examination in the language you were tested in (before the start of the course).
⚠️ Please note: passing the exam does not exempt you from participation in language classes.
3. Continue studying at a higher level (C1) or choose a different language:
o Obtain the Dean’s approval – submit the Dean’s request form (Annex No. 5) together with your printed test result to the Dean’s Office.
o Deliver the Dean’s approval along with the language choice declaration (Annex No. 2) to CJiC by 19 December 2025.
o If you fail the programme examination, enrol in the regular language course and submit your declaration via MS Forms.
o If you pass the exam, wait for information from CJiC regarding the mandatory course in your selected language.
IF YOU HOLD AN INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE CERTIFICATE If you hold an international certificate or other proof of language proficiency at a minimum B2 level, as listed in the appendix to Resolution No. 206 of the Senate of the University of Łódź, you may apply for an exemption from both the course and the examination.
To do so:
1. Submit to CJiC (by 19 December 2025) a Dean’s request form (Annex No. 4) together with your certificate, to obtain the opinion of the CJiC Director.
(Certificates obtained after 19 December 2025 will also be accepted.)
2. Submit the request to the Dean’s Office.
3. Provide a copy of the Dean’s approval to your language instructor.
Remember! You may also choose to attend a non-obligatory language course at a higher level than your certificate, or take a different language at any level.
In that case, submit your language choice declaration (Annex No. 3) to CJiC by 19 December 2025.
All information and regulations can be found on the department's website under the tab (Language courses and diagnostic tests).
